Discover the Heart of Press Bars Camping
Where Adventure Meets Comfort

A brief history...
Originally an 18th century Cider house, the 'Fox & Hounds' had it's own orchards & when it lost it's licence, became a cider farm. The owner, reportedly, had a mobile cider press & would travel to local farms/orchards who couldn't afford their own press. Which is where the name probably originated. 'Bars' is an old term used to describe an area (usually fields) containing singular crops, in this case cider apples, hence Press Bars Farm. It remained a working farm, of some 14 acres, for many years, but sadly the apple orchards gave way to pasture a long time ago.
At one point, it was a dairy farm. What was the milking shed still stands. At some point in the late 70's/early 80's the farm was sold off, the connected store room & garage were later converted into holiday lets which, through various owners, were still a successful business when we moved here just over 3 years ago, with the dream of starting a campsite.
Today, Press Bars Farm is a growing family homestead with a flock of about 20 chickens, we sell the fresh eggs on site. We also have 2 small breed sheep, who are pets & spoiled rotten! This year will see the arrival of another sheep, 2 pigs & hopefully we will see you here too.
Set within roughly an acre of our land, Press Bars Camping offers you the choice between pitching your own tent or campervan, on either of our spacious 10x10m private pitches or treating yourself to a stay in our cozy, furnished safari tent.
Our pricing structure is fixed throughout the year, so no annoying price hike during school holidays.
The communal facilities include: 2 unisex flushing toilet cubicles, a family sized shower room with basin & changing area, a well stocked camp kitchen, drinking water point & an outdoor BBQ area with seating.
As well as the animals we keep, the visiting wildlife include many species of bird & butterfly, squirrels, pheasant & deer. The family of moor hen nesting on our pond are often joined by wild duck & even the occasional heron!
Our village is on the main bus route between Bristol & Wells. Giving you the option to reach us & explore Somerset by bus, should transport be an issue.
As a small, family run site we aim to make you welcome, whilst respecting your privacy. If you have any questions or wish to meet any of our animals during your stay, please feel free to aproach one of us.
We look forward to meeting you..
