find your Somerset
Here are a selection of local points of interest, all within 5miles of our site & many won't cost you anything but time..

Combe Hill woods
Part of the Polden Way, Combe hill woods is aprox. 62 acres of managed woodland, grassland & wildflower meadow. There are lots of signed trails to follow & 4 viewpoints offering fantastic views of our village & the moors beyond. Just a short drive to the car park but is also walkable from here via public footpaths.

Glastonbury
The 'ancient Isle of Avalon' has a lot to offer besides the iconic tor. Chalice Well, Rural Life museum & Abbey ruins are all well worth a visit & each hold a number of events throughout the year. The town itself has some very good pubs & restaurants, quirky shops & some colourfull locals!

The Levels
The Somerset levels play host to some amazing wildlife. You will be spoiled for choice, with RSPB sites like Ham Wall & Greylake or nature reserves such as Shapwick Heath & Avalon Marshes Centre. There's also a rich history associated with the levels, which can be unearthed at Avalon Archaeology.

Street
Only a couple of miles up the road, Street is the nearest town, with most major shops, a monthly market & of course, Clarke's Village Outlet. Should you need to get supplies for your stay. Street has a number of pubs & restaurants & we are close enough that some will deliver take-out. The true gem of Street is the huge outdoor heated pool & splashpark at Greenbank. Perfect for those long summer days!

Dundon Beacon
Just a short walk from here is Dundon Beacon. Once an Iron age hill fort it, gives excelent views across the levels & is now a nature reserve, sometimes grazed by cattle. Half way up the main track there is a trail that winds along the Western edge, through the woodland of Oak, Hazel & field Maple & brings you to the summit via a huge Oak tree with 4 rope swings attached. The elevation gives the feeling of swinging out above the tree canopy below. The area is ideal for den making & letting your imagination run wild!

Somerton
To the South of us is the historic town of Somerton. Once the capitol of ancient Wessex & in the 14th century it gave it's name to the County. Today, it really turns on the charm with beautifull architecture, medieval buildings, independent shops, artisan bakeries & a selecion of places to eat & drink. As a town it really champions local produce & a warm Somerset welcome!

Eating out
Right here in the village, there are a couple of options. Across the road is the Castlebrook Inn, serving delicious food daily, with specials nights throughout the week & a Sunday carvery. (the carvery is very popular so we recommend booking). A short walk through the village is Annie-May's snackvan, serving a variety of tasty food as well as hot & cold drinks. Two mums in the village have recently opened shed loads of cake. An honesty shop selling their homemade bakes alongside drinks & dog treats. The perfect pit-stop on a long walk!
Street has many options both in the town & within Clarke's Village. A couple of our favourites are:
Bull and Bar - Burgers/smokehouse, serving a range of excellent burgers, steaks & smokehouse classics.
Table 9 - Indian Restaurant, serving a range of excellent Indian cuisine
(It is also worth noting that both of these will deliver to our village)
The Street fish bar - quality fish & chips
Here are a few suggestions of where to eat in Somerton:
Alfredos - Italian restaurant, bar, bakery & deli all in one place! They also do take away pizza.
Tony's fish & chips - quality fish & chips
The Unicorn Inn - recently refurbished & new managment & has great reviews
Local cider
Somerset is littered with cider farms, some have evolved into tourist destinations with restaurants & visitor centres while others still just sell out of a cow shed but the one thing that they have in common, is they all make great cider!
here are a couple that are local to us:
Hecks farmhouse cider & farm shop, Street.
Tricky cider, Low Ham
Bere cider, Bere Aller, Langport
Shopping
Unfortunately, we don't have a shop in the village but just up the road, towards Somerton, is Millway Farm shop providing home made preserves and fresh fruit & veg. Somerton itself has an excellent butchers, supplying locally sourced meats; green grocer with local produce and an independant hardware store. Street is where you will find the nearest supermarket (Sainsbury's, Lidl, & Food Warehouse) There is also a butcher, a few convenience stores (Co-Op & Morrissons daily), as well as the farm shop at Hecks Cider.
